"Travelling with babies is like military campaign" (said the flight attendant)

I never thought I'd make it through the first several days. We booked the red eye flight to Rome hoping the baby will sleep most of the time. But of 10 hours he slept only 1, and most of the way he was crying and driving us crazy. I wonder what those good neighbours of ours thought about us.
He was nearly falling down in Heathrow where we made connection to Rome. But still he was trying to explore things around him.
Gosh did I get advice this time! On what to do with the crying baby - so that he shut up.
The first three nights in Frascati (the town near Rome) no one slept. The schedule was approx. the following: Lev went to bed about 9 or 10 pm, slept for an hour or two, then started crying. This never happened at home, so we did not know what to do. We were so anxious we went to check on him every half an hour or so. That made him want us more and cry for more attention. After about 2 or 3 hours of crying he stopped and started playing. He would play and talk to himself for about two or more hours, then fall asleep and sleep till 10 am. Since I could not sleep while he was awake, I could fall asleep only around 3 am, that made me worn out and cranky during the day.
He was crying so much that I even had to explain someone in Italian what was going on. Just imagine, with my Italian barely enough to order in a restarurant! The neighbour was furious that we were sitting in the yard with the computer, while the baby was crying.
Il bambino piange le due ore! (The baby has been crying for 2 hours!)
